Custom Rug Pads: Where to Buy Them
You have a rug that needs a pad and most rug pads sold are in standard sizes. The problem is that your rug is not a standard size, even if it is off by only a few inches. This means you will either need to buy a custom rug pad or buy a standard pad and cut it yourself. The first option is best since rug pads, particulary dense ones, might be difficult to cut in your home.
Stores that carry rug pads by the rolls are usually able to custom cut your rug pad. Some stores may charge a premium and depending on the charge, it could be well worth it. A custom rug pad means that when you place the pad on your floor, your rug should fit perfectly on it even with the one inch allowance on all sides. Let's say your rug is 8'8"x11'9". Well, the closest standard size rug pad is a 9'x12' pad. Allowing for the one inch border on all sides, your rug pad really needs to be 8'6"x11'7" to fit a rug size of 8'8"x11'9".
When buying your rug pad for a non standard rug size, try to find a store that can custom cut the rug pad. There may be some long time reputable brick and mortar rug dealers who can still custom cut the rug pad. Such stores are hard to find since most stores now offer rug pads already cut and packaged, which I truly shy away from for a few reasons. There may be a few other stores who do this and it is worth your while to find one who can custom cut your rug pad to save you time and frustration.
